Discovering Formathics: A Teacher’s Passion Project
I'm Jon, the founder. But mostly I'm a teacher...
...from a family of teachers.
Because of that, I have lived the challenges that teachers face and I want to give back to those who give so much. That's how Formathics was born as the digital mathematics curriculum tool by teachers for teachers.
Past Success
With a decade of experience serving as a teacher, an administrator, and a mathematics facilitator, I've had a lot of success and worked with some incredible teachers.
Most recently, I'm proud to have worked with teachers at Jay M. Robinson Middle School in Charlotte, North Carolina.
In 2023 I was recognized as the NCMLE School-Based Support Personnel to Watch.
That year, our school was recognized as a 2023 National Blue Ribbon School.
Like me, you know that success comes through navigating challenges, of which there are many.
Current Challenges
Teachers need more time and less things things to do.
Teachers get less time and more things to do — every year.
Class sizes are up.
Schools are not fully staffed.
The curriculum isn't aligned to standards.
There are gaps where our students have unfinished learning.
Incredible teachers have retired or left the profession.
You already know the obstacles, let's talk about solutions.
Our Solutions
I developed Formathics because I believe that teachers deserve better. Yes, teaching is a really simple concept, but that doesn't mean that it's easy. Anyone who has been in the classroom knows that it's incredibly hard because so many things get in the way of the best practices that we want to be doing.
Formathics helps teachers get back to those best practices by:
- helping teachers stay laser focused on the standards
- giving teachers immediate access to the exact materials they are looking for
- saving teachers time so they can use it on the things that matter most
- providing on demand formative assessments so teachers know if students met the goal
- creating mathematical graphs, equations, relationships, and more so teachers can plan learning experiences
